Ammonium Sulphate (AS), one of the most common nitrogen fertilizer types, is also known as "sugar fertilizer" among farmers because it looks like granulated sugar. It can be used safely in calcareous soils. The nitrogen in it is in the form of ammonium (NH4).
The AS fertilizer also contains 24% sulfur in the form of sulphate (SO4), the form that plants can take, along with 21% nitrogen element. The sulfur in the form of sulphate can be met quickly by plants.
As with all base (starting) fertilizers, it increases the phosphorus uptake of the plant, as the nitrogen in its content is in the form of ammonium (NH4).
